Halloween Ideas with Paddington: Treats, Outfits & Storytime

A little mischief, something orange and a rather sticky kitchen: there’s plenty of inspiration for a Paddington-inspired Halloween. Whether you’re planning half-term activities or a cosy evening at home, these family Halloween ideas bring together baking, seasonal outfits and a story to share.

Explore our Paddington Halloween Collection, then make time for a few small adventures of your own. A jar of marmalade is a very good place to begin.

Bake Halloween 'Marmalade Mummy' Pastries

Give your Halloween treats a citrus twist with these marmalade mummy pastries. Golden puff pastry, a spoonful of Paddington Seville Orange Marmalade and a few criss-crossed pastry strips turn a simple bake into a tray of spooky little mummies.

They’re a lovely activity for a rainy October afternoon, with plenty of opportunity for little helpers to arrange the pastry bandages.

Makes: 8 pastries
Preparation: Approximately 20 minutes
Baking: Approximately 15–20 minutes, plus cooling

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry, approximately 320g
  • 8 level teaspoons Paddington Seville Orange Marmalade
  • 1 beaten egg, for brushing
  • A little white writing icing and dark chocolate writing icing, for the eyes

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 200°C, or 180°C fan, and line a baking tray with baking paper. Check the pastry packet for any different baking instructions.

  2. Unroll the chilled pastry. Cut off roughly one-third along the long edge and keep it aside for the bandages.

  3. Cut the remaining pastry into eight rectangles and place them on the tray, leaving space between each one.

  4. Spread one level teaspoon of marmalade down the centre of each rectangle, leaving a clear border of about 1cm. Keep the filling thin to help prevent it spilling out.

  5. Cut the reserved pastry into narrow strips. Lay them across each rectangle at different angles to make mummy bandages, leaving a small gap near the top for the eyes. Press the strip ends firmly onto the pastry borders.

  6. Brush the exposed pastry lightly with beaten egg. Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes, until puffed and golden, with the bases cooked through.

  7. Leave to cool completely: the marmalade filling will be hot. Add two small dots of white icing in each gap, then a dot of dark chocolate icing on each to finish the eyes.

Arrange your mummies on a plate for a Halloween tea or an afternoon treat. No two need to look quite alike - a slightly wonky bandage is all part of the charm.

NB: Adults should handle knives, baking trays and the oven. Check ingredient labels for allergens before baking.

Plan a Pumpkin-Picking Outfit

From choosing a pumpkin to following a trail of crunchy leaves, October offers plenty of reasons to head outdoors.

The Paddington Halloween Kids Hoodie adds a seasonal touch to a little one’s outfit, while the Paddington Halloween Adult Sweatshirt brings grown-ups into the fun.

Pair with everyday favourites and weather-appropriate layers for a half-term outing. For celebrations indoors, explore the adult and children’s Halloween T-shirts in the collection - an easy starting point for a festive outfit.

Settle Down for a Halloween Story

Halloween treats don’t always have to come in a sweet wrapper. A seasonal book makes a thoughtful surprise for a young reader and gives you something to enjoy together throughout October.

After a busy afternoon, make a snug reading corner with cushions, a blanket and Paddington’s Trick or Treat Halloween Book.

Sharing a Halloween book is a lovely way to enjoy the season together, whether it becomes part of October bedtime reading or a quieter moment during a party.

Keep the activity going afterwards: invite children to draw and colour a Halloween invitation, design a funny pumpkin face or imagine what might happen at their own Halloween celebration.

Give a Little Autumn Surprise

For a grown-up Paddington fan, the Paddington x Dr.PAWPAW Marmalade Lip Balm Duo offers another small gifting idea for lip protection during colder autumnal walks. Or bring a jar of Seville Orange Marmalade along when visiting friends for an autumnal breakfast.
